The Butterflies part of my title is because I like butterflies, especially Monarchs. I look forward to seeing them every Summer in my backyard with their brilliant orange-red wings, black veins, and white spots along the edges. Being a first grade teacher, every September my class would observe real eggs on milkweed leaves turn into caterpillars, form a chrysalis, and finally emerge as a beautiful butterfly that we would then release. Two other species that I like to see are the beautiful Yellow and Blue Swallowtails. I enjoy watching them perch on my butterfly bushes and purple cone flowers as they sip nectar from the individual florets. The Bears part of my title is because I love baby bear cubs and teddy bears, especially stuffed Boys Bears which I collect. On a trip to Mt. Rushmore in South Dakota one summer we stopped at a place called Bear Country where we saw many cute bear cubs trying to climb a tree and they just kept plopping to the ground off the limbs because they were too heavy for the small branches. Their antics were so comical! It is the memory of those cubs that sparked the idea for me to include bears in my title.
