Did you know that the love of reading is called bibliophilia, and someone who reads a lot is often called a bookworm? I proudly fit that description!

My love of reading began in childhood when my mother and older sisters read Mother Goose Nursery Rhymes and Little Golden Books to me. In first grade, my teacher used a reading series with characters like Jane, Dick, and Sally, along with Puff the cat and Spot the dog. These early experiences helped me build strong reading skills, expand my vocabulary, and develop a lifelong love of books. One of my proudest childhood memories is reading ’Twas the Night Before Christmas to my younger brother.

Throughout school, college, and my 32-year career as a first-grade teacher, I was always surrounded by books. I read thousands of children’s books, early readers, and classroom storybooks, helping students develop phonics skills, reading fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension through daily storytime.

As a mother and now a grandmother of five, I have continued passing on this love of reading through Scholastic books, Mother Goose rhymes, and Little Golden Books. Sharing stories across generations has been one of the greatest joys of my life.

As a lifelong reader, I enjoy historical fiction, romance, mystery, suspense, and World War II fiction, with favorite authors including Kristin Hannah and Pam Jenoff. Books have always been my escape—helping me travel through cultures, emotions, and unforgettable stories.

Reading is more than a hobby for me—it is a lifelong passion. I have read thousands of books, and I truly am a bookworm.

As an author, I bring this passion into my writing. My book, Butterflies, Bears, and Other Poems for Children, is a rhyming poetry collection for kids, preschool, kindergarten, and early readers, designed to support early literacy, phonics, vocabulary building, and a love of reading. Inspired by my 32 years in the classroom, each poem blends learning with fun, imagination, and discovery.

My hope is to help children, parents, teachers, and grandparents create meaningful reading moments together—and inspire a lifelong love of books.
