Making Reading a Playtime: Fostering Special Bonding Moments with Patricia Herber’s Poetry Collection
In a day when screens often require our attention, reading aloud to your children may become a treasured time....
When I was growing up as the middle child in a family of 8 children, my childhood memories included Mother Goose Rhymes which were popular at that time, and we merrily jumped rope to chants that rhymed. Fast forward to present day, and I am now the author of a rhyming poetry book for children!
BUTTERFLIES, BEARS, AND OTHER POEMS FOR CHILDREN is a delightful collection of poems and colorful artwork that uses rhymes to teach about holidays, dental health, fire safety, animals, dinosaurs, etc. The author, Patricia Herber, firmly believes that the concept of rhyming is an important skill that can be a fun way to help children learn to read. Written in an easy-to-read and listen-to format, children will enjoy turning the pages as they learn fun facts and view amusing illustrations. This totally entertaining book will surely capture your child’s attention and is appropriate for toddlers through age ten.
This is a delightful collection of fun poems and amusing colorful illustrations that teach about the holidays, health and science-related topics, fire safety, and other fun facts for children. All the poems use rhyming as an ingenious way to get children to learn to read and increase their vocabulary. This would be an excellent resource for all Elementary or pre-school or day care teachers to use in their classrooms. It is appropriate for all children, toddlers to age 10 and for parents and grandparents with children in that age group.
Young children will sense the rhythmic and musical quality of language as they hear or read this book filled with playful poems and colorful, childlike illustrations. There is much to be enjoyed and learned. The poems deal with a variety of subjects from holidays and science to a child's everyday world. They speak in a child's language on topics from the imaginative to the informative.
I've bought several copies of this book for my grandchildren. I love reading it to them and they love listening. Rhyming is always fun for them and after several times reading it to them, they can read it for themselves. A definite plus is that it was written and illustrated by my husband's cousin. Thanks for a great book.
Just received two of Butterflies,Bears, and Other Poems for Children. The poetry reminds me of the nursery rhymes from my childhood and the illustration are beautiful and for sure will keep the attention of a child. Like Ms. Herber I want for my two granddaughters to have the joy of reading and to use their imagination instead of an iPad. Well done!!
Bought this book for an upcoming baby shower and am thrilled I did. This book brought back happy memories of both learning and doing fun things as a child. I especially liked all of the poems about the holidays. This book is well written and covers so many different categories such as animals, holidays, and history to name just a few!!!
We bought this beautifully illustrated book for our Grandson......we are sure he will enjoy is parents reading and showing him this well written rhyming book for many years... One person found this helpful.
Having been Patricia's 8th grade English teacher, I could see from the start that she had the gift of writing, as well as a love for it. Combined with her joy and experience of having and teaching children, she brings delightfully illustrated rhymes that bring new light to children. Her book is happy and loving and colorful, and I cannot wait to read it to my new grandson. My granddaughters enjoyed her first book so much, they will also want to read this to their cousin.

I have purchased several copies over the last few years for children of friends and relatives. The poems and pictures are adorable and entertaining. A must have for littles who are too young to read as well as those just learning.
