Fun Things to Do In the Snow (Outdoors)

Sing the popular FROZEN song, “Do you want to build a Snowman? As you build your snowman.

  1. Make an upside-down snowman.  Add boots for the feet.
  2. Play “Pin the Smile on the Snowman.”  Pass out cookies.

Blindfold each child and let them try to get the mouth, eyes, and buttons in place.

  1. Make a “Sugar Daddy” snowman.  Give your snowman a candy-coated makeover by using licorice, candy canes, lollipops, peach rings, etc.
  2. Build a fort or snow castle.  Use sand buckets, loaf pans, or empty milk cartons.
  3. Play dodgeball with snowballs instead of regular balls.
  4. Practice writing you name in the snow.
  5. Go snow tubing.  Have kids sit in inner tubes and race to the finish line using their feet.
  6. Play a game of Freeze Tag.
  7. Blow ice bubbles.  If it’s below freezing (32 degrees F) outdoors, blow bubbles and watch them freeze on the wand.
  8. Go sleigh riding on a big sheet of cardboard or a beach towel.
  9. Catch snowflakes on a sheet of black construction paper.  Observe their beauty by looking at them with a magnifying glass.
  10. Have a snowball fight.  Invite friends.  Make teams. See who wins the “War of Snow.”
  11. Go ice skating.
  12. Build an igloo.
  13. Go skiing.
  14. Go ice fishing.
  15. Catch a snowflake on your tongue.
  16. Shovel snow so your parents don’t have to do it.
  17. Make a long “Caterpillar” out of big snowballs in a row.

Add berries and sticks for eyes and antennae.

  1. Hollow out an orange and fill it with seeds to feed the birds.
  2. Make “Snow Graffiti.”  Give kids spray bottles filled with water and food coloring.  Decorate the snow in the backyard.

Indoor Winter Day Activities

  1. Make a “Snow Globe.”  Use strong glue to attach a plastic toy to the inside of a jar lid.  Then add baby oil and glitter to make the snow for inside the jar.  It makes a great souvenir for a snowy day.
  2. Make snowflakes out of white computer or construction paper.
  3. Watch a movie with your family.
  4. Bake some cookies or a cake.
  5. Read a good book.
  6. Curl up by the fireplace.
  7. Drink hot chocolate.
  8. Do a puzzle or two.
  9. Spend all day in your pajamas.
  10. Make an indoor camp-site in the living room.
